Arthur Wheeler is a legendary figure in the world of motorcycle racing, with an impressive career spanning over 52 years on the Isle of Man. From his early days riding for Aermacchi alongside Terry Grotefeld and Mick Chatterton, to his later successes with Guzzi, NSU, Velocette, AJS, and Matchless, Wheeler's name became synonymous with speed and skill. In 1954, Wheeler made his mark at the Lightweight TT riding for Guzzi. The race was intense and competitive but Arthur proved himself as a force to be reckoned with. Over the years, he continued to dominate various races including the Southern 100 in 1962 where he showcased his talent aboard a Guzzi once again. One of his most remarkable achievements came in 1983 during the Lightweight Classic Manx Grand Prix. Wheeling completed eight non-stop laps around the challenging circuit demonstrating not only endurance but also precision in every turn. Throughout his illustrious career, Wheeler rode different bikes such as Velocette and AJS. In both Junior TT races in 1950 and 1955 respectively; he displayed exceptional skills that left spectators awestruck. Additionally, he triumphed at events like the Lightweight Ulster Grand Prix multiple times - once on a Velocette in 1951 and then on a Guzzi in 1955. Wheeler's legacy extends beyond victories; it encompasses moments that will forever be etched into racing history. One such moment occurred at Quarter Bridge during the thrilling Lightweight TT race of 1962 when Arthur fearlessly maneuvered through tight corners showcasing unmatched control over his bike. The Senior Ulster Grand Prix held special significance for him too as he clinched victory astride a Matchless bike back in 1955 further solidifying his reputation as one of racing's greats.
