Born in 1859, he served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Fleet during World War I. His leadership skills were put to the test during the Battle of Jutland Bank in May 1916. The Battle of Jutland Bank was a significant naval engagement between the British Royal Navy and German Imperial Navy.
