The hummingbird hawk-moth migrates to the UK from Southern Europe each year when it can be seen hovering over flowers, feeding with its long proboscis; its wings move so quickly that it 'hums'

A small, day-flying hawk-moth, it is found in many habitats around England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland from coastal areas to gardens, woodland rides and urban areas, it has orange-brown hindwings which is evident in flight. It has forewings that are greyish-brown and a black and white chequered body.
