God Rays at sunrise over Wind River Mountains, Fremont and Jackson Peaks in Summer, Sublette County, Wyoming, USA
Crepuscular rays (also known as sunbeams, Angel lights[citation needed], Sun rays or God rays), in atmospheric optics, are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the sun is located. These rays, which stream through gaps in clouds (particularly stratocumulus) or between other objects, are columns of sunlit air separated by darker cloud-shadowed regions. Despite seeming to converge at a point, the rays are in fact near-parallel shafts of sunlight, and their apparent convergence is a perspective effect (similar, for example, to the way that parallel railway lines seem to converge at a point in the distance)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the ethereal beauty of God Rays at sunrise over the majestic Wind River Mountains in Sublette County, Wyoming. As the first rays of sunlight break through the clouds, they create a mesmerizing display of crepuscular rays, also known as sunbeams or God rays. These radiant beams appear to emanate from the point where the sun is located in the sky. The image showcases the sublime interplay between light and shadow as columns of sunlit air stream through gaps in stratocumulus clouds. The contrast between these illuminated shafts and darker cloud-shadowed regions creates a captivating visual spectacle that seems to converge at a distant point. Silhouetted against this celestial backdrop are Fremont and Jackson Peaks, two iconic landmarks that add depth and grandeur to an already awe-inspiring scene. The absence of people allows us to fully appreciate nature's magnificence without any distractions. As we gaze upon this horizontal composition, we can almost feel ourselves immersed in nature's embrace during those tranquil early morning hours. The subtle lens flare adds a touch of warmth and magic to an already enchanting moment captured by photographer Danita Delimont. This remarkable print serves as a reminder of our planet's extraordinary beauty and invites us to pause for a moment, basking in its splendor before embarking on another day's journey.
