(Original Caption) 6/21/1972-Stavanger, Norway-This 245, 000-ton steel and concrete "monster" of steel and concrete is under construction in a fjord at Stavanger. It's being readied to take its place in the middle of the North Sea. In late summer, it is to be towed out to become a three-acre "island" halfway between Norway and Britain. Purpose of the installation will be to store a milion barrels of oil from the Ekofisk Field discovered by Phillips Petroleum. Surrounded by a gigantic breakwater, the concrete bastion's bottom is to rest 230 feet below the surface and the top is to be 70 feet above water.
