Jet Wing Entering Autoclave

(Original Caption) St. Louis, Missouri: A McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II wing skin is guided into an autoclave where its layers of carbon-epoxy material will be bonded and cured under heat and pressure. The material is used to make aircraft parts that are as strong as steel but light as aluminum. More than 25 percent of the AV-8B is made from carbon-epoxy materials. McDonnell currently is processing 200, 000 pounds of the material annually and plans to triple that amount in the next few years. Unleash your creativity and transform your space into a visual masterpiece.
