EDITORS COMMENTS
This haunting print captures the eerie beauty of a decaying ferris wheel, standing as a solemn sentinel in the heart of Prypiat's abandoned amusement park. Located within the infamous Chernobyl exclusion zone, this once vibrant city now lies frozen in time, forever marked by the catastrophic events that unfolded on April 26,1986. The image reveals a poignant juxtaposition between past and present; where laughter and joy once filled the air, now silence reigns supreme. The rusted metal structure stands tall amidst overgrown vegetation, its faded colors hinting at a long-forgotten era. This relic from another time serves as a somber reminder of lives disrupted and dreams shattered. Pripyat itself was home to thousands of residents who lived harmoniously alongside the Chernobyl nuclear power plant workers and their families. However, after reactor number four exploded during an ill-fated safety test, releasing deadly radiation into the atmosphere, Pripyat became uninhabitable overnight. The town was swiftly evacuated and has remained deserted ever since. Through Fernando Vazquez Miras' lens, we are transported to this ghostly landscape where nature slowly reclaims what was once man-made. This photograph encapsulates both tragedy and resilience - an enduring testament to human folly but also our ability to persevere in even the most challenging circumstances. As we gaze upon this decaying ferris wheel against a backdrop of desolation, it serves as a stark reminder that some scars run deep while simultaneously inspiring us
