EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a mesmerizing detail from the Golden Shrine, found within the illustrious Tomb of Tutankhamun. Created during the New Kingdom period in ancient Egypt (c. 1370-1352 BC) by skilled artisans of the 18th Dynasty (c. 1567-1320 BC), this wooden shrine is adorned with gesso and covered with sheets of shimmering gold. In this particular section captured by eBoltin Picture Library, we witness King Tutankhamun himself seated on a cushioned folding stool, holding lotuses and mandrakes in his hands. With great care and reverence, he pours scented liquid onto the hand of his wife, symbolizing an act of love and devotion. The intricate relief work surrounding them depicts significant elements such as a blue crown, a solar disk with horns representing divinity, cartouches bearing hieroglyphics denoting royal names or titles, and references to Queen Ankhesenamun - possibly Tutankhamun's wife herself. Preserved within the Egyptian National Museum in Cairo, Egypt today; this extraordinary artifact offers us a glimpse into the opulent world of ancient Egyptian royalty. Its exquisite craftsmanship combined with its historical significance makes it an invaluable treasure that continues to captivate art enthusiasts worldwide.
