The posts of KingAs Indian Orderly Officers were established by the Viceroy of India in 1903. Specially selected British and Indian officers and NCOs were thereafter appointed each year for the London season, from April to August, and attended the King at court, official engagements and ceremonies like Trooping the Colour.
The men depicted are Captain H Campbell, Queens Own Corps of Guides, Cavalry (centre); Rissaldar Major Muhammad Ali Beg, 9th Hodsons Horse; Rissaldar Major Ali Gauhar Khan, 27th Light Cavalry; Subadar Dalel Khan, 25th Mountain Battery (seated left); Subadar Major Alahdin, 130th Baluchis (seated right).

Taken by the renowned photographer C Vandyk in London, this image showcases a group of distinguished men who held prestigious positions as King's Indian Orderly Officers. Established by the Viceroy of India in 1903, these officers were carefully selected from both British and Indian backgrounds to serve during the London season from April to August. Their duties included attending court proceedings, official engagements, and grand ceremonies such as Trooping the Colour. In this photograph, we see Captain H Campbell of Queens Own Corps of Guides Cavalry at the center. Flanking him are Rissaldar Major Muhammad Ali Beg of 9th Hodsons Horse and Rissaldar Major Ali Gauhar Khan of 27th Light Cavalry. Seated on the left is Subadar Dalel Khan from 25th Mountain Battery while Subadar Major Alahdin from 130th Baluchis sits on the right. Part of a larger collection spanning several decades (1903-1938), this particular image offers an intriguing glimpse into a time when British-Indian relations were evolving within colonial India.
