Tableau 26 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wieds Travels in the interior of North America. Hidatsa villiage settlement scene that depicts group gatherings, social interactions, daily activities and earth lodges. Smoke billows from some of the lodges in this winter depiction. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
