Winter, Clive Street, North Shields (charcoal & w/c on paper pasted on card)
1214405 Winter, Clive Street, North Shields (charcoal & w/c on paper pasted on card) by Horton, George Edward (1859-1950); 23.3x31.9 cm; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: George Horton was known for his misty watercolour views. He often painted with very runny watercolour washes, allowing the colours to merge. In this scene, light brown watercolour has been washed onto wet darker colour for the end wall of the near building. The stones of the wall are outlined in soft black pencil. George Horton painted many scenes like this of his home town of North Shields. He was the most important local watercolour artist of the early 20th century.); Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums
