EDITORS COMMENTS
The Blue-bellied Finch, also known as the Narcissus Jacobea, is a stunning bird captured in this exquisite coloured engraving. Created by George Edwards and re-engraved by Michael Seligmann, this print showcases the beauty of nature and the artistry of these talented individuals. Originally featured in Edwards' renowned works "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" and "Gleanings of Natural History" this particular engraving combines elements from Catesby's work "A Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands". Its intricate details are meticulously captured through the skillful technique of engraving. This artwork serves as a testament to both scientific observation and artistic expression. Displayed here is a print from a private collection, preserved for generations to appreciate. It offers us an opportunity to marvel at the wonders of nature while admiring the talent behind its depiction. The combination of natural history, illustration, and engraving makes it a valuable piece that transcends time.
