The Camp of Exercise held in the neighbourhood of Delhi and Umballa during 1885-1886 was the largest gathering of troops in peacetime India up to that date. Four divisions, comprising fourteen cavalry and 36 infantry regiments, British and Indian, took part and 37, 000 troops and 25, 000 followers were involved. The image, taken by an unknown photographer from the 19th century, is now housed at the National Army Museum in London. The Camp of Exercise held near Delhi and Umballa during 1885-1886 was a significant event, marking the largest gathering of troops in peacetime India up to that date. With four divisions consisting of fourteen cavalry and thirty-six infantry regiments - both British and Indian - this exercise involved a staggering number of individuals: 37,000 troops and 25,000 followers.
