Sea Adventure: The mutiny of the "Dreadnought" (colour litho)

8668756 Sea Adventure: The mutiny of the "Dreadnought" (colour litho) by English School, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: The mutiny of the "Dreadnought." In the 19th century clipper packets crossing the Atlantic there were numerous roughs who had shipped as seamen, and the officers frequently had to fight to keep order. Captain Samuel Samuels of the famous American clipper Dreadnought had "hammered" some of these hooligans, and their friends vowed vengeance. Thirty of them shipped secretly in his crew in order to raise a mutiny. This they did, but the old man was more than a match for them. He had all the food aft and, helped by his armed mates and his big Newfoundland dog, he held the poop until the mutineers were starved into submission.
