EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Roberts Horse Regimental flag, dating back to 1901. Created by the British School in the 19th century, this fabric artifact is currently housed at the National Army Museum in London. The flag represents a significant moment in history when General Sir Redvers Buller authorized the formation of a mounted corps known as the South African Light Horse in 1899. Comprising both British and Colonial troops, alongside Texan cowboys, this formidable force consisted of eight squadrons with 100 men each. As recruitment progressed rapidly, another regiment was established from Cape Town called Roberts Horse. By 1900, it had grown to include an impressive total of 550 officers and men. The photograph captures not only the intricate design and craftsmanship of this historic flag but also serves as a reminder of its symbolic importance within military operations during that era. With its rich colors and meticulous detailing, it stands as a testament to bravery and dedication exhibited by those who fought under its banner. Preserved for posterity at the National Army Museum, this image offers viewers a glimpse into an important chapter of military history. It serves as a poignant reminder of battles fought and honors earned on behalf of their respective nations—a tribute to all those who served valiantly under its proud emblem.
