EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable piece of history - the Regimental pattern dirk, dating back to 1881. The dirk holds great significance as it was not only the traditional sidearm of Highlanders but also carried by officers, pipers, and drummers of the Scottish Highland regiments in the British Army. Belonging to a member of the esteemed 91st (Princess Louise's Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment, this particular dirk is adorned with intricate details. Its blade boasts exquisite decorations including a crown, cypher, and depictions of cats and boars heads. Adding further depth to its symbolism is the inclusion of the regimental motto "Ne Obliviscaris" meaning "Do Not Forget". Crafted by Marshall and Sons from George Street in Edinburgh, this extraordinary weapon comes complete with a scabbard that houses an additional side-knife and fork. It serves as a testament to both skilled craftsmanship and historical heritage. The photograph beautifully captures every fine detail of this historic artifact held at London's National Army Museum.
