The volunteer Yeomanry cavalry units were originally formed in the 1790s as a response to the invasion threat from Revolutionary France. However, they were also used to support the civil authority to put down political and social disturbances. This continued until the mid-19th century when police forces took over this role. The yeomanry then concentrated on local defence.); © National Army Museum

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable piece of history - an unidentified Welsh Yeomanry helmet from the 1830-1840 period. Crafted with metal, this helmet is a testament to the volunteer cavalry units that were established in response to the invasion threat posed by Revolutionary France during the late 18th century. Beyond their military role, these yeomanry units also played a crucial part in maintaining social order and quelling political disturbances until the mid-19th century when police forces assumed this responsibility. Following this transition, the focus of yeomanry shifted towards local defense efforts. The intricate design and craftsmanship of this helmet reflect not only its functional purpose but also its symbolic significance within Welsh culture. As an unidentified artifact, it invites us to imagine the stories and experiences of those who wore it proudly while serving their community. Preserved at London's National Army Museum, this photograph allows us to appreciate both the historical context and artistic beauty encapsulated within this extraordinary piece. Its inclusion in Fine Art Finder's collection highlights its importance as a cultural treasure worth cherishing for generations to come.
