The Coldstream Guards drummers tunic, although ornate, was less heavily trimmed with white worsted lace than the coatee which it superseded. However, the lace retained its blue fleur de lys motif, which was common to all three regiments of the Guards. Among the Guards, the colouring of the blue and white worsted fringe to the collar and epaulettes was unique to the Coldstreams.); © National Army Museum

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Drummers tunic of the Coldstream Guards, dating back to 1855. The tunic, crafted with exquisite fabric, is a testament to the artistry and attention to detail prevalent in British military uniforms during the 19th century. Although slightly less adorned than its predecessor, this ornate tunic still exudes grandeur. Its white worsted lace trimmings are delicately woven into intricate patterns, while maintaining the iconic blue fleur de lys motif shared by all three regiments of the Guards. However, what sets this particular tunic apart is its unique coloring – a mesmerizing blend of blue and white worsted fringe adorns both collar and epaulettes. The drummer depicted in this image stands proudly wearing his distinguished uniform. His role as a musician within the Coldstream Guards is symbolized by his badge insignia prominently displayed on his chest. This photograph not only captures an important piece of military history but also highlights the craftsmanship and artistry involved in creating such garments. Preserved at London's National Army Museum, this remarkable artifact serves as a reminder of Britain's rich heritage and enduring traditions within its armed forces. Through this print from Fine Art Finder by Bridgeman Images, we can appreciate both the historical significance and aesthetic beauty embodied by this Drummers tunic from over 150 years ago.
