EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a Drummers mitre cap from the 13th Regiment of Dragoons, dating back to 1751. The intricate embroidery on this fabric cap is a testament to the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the British School in the 18th century. During this time, embroidered caps were exclusively worn by certain types of cavalry. In fact, in 1678, each troop of Horse Guards had a horse grenadier unit added, who donned caps similar to those worn by infantry grenadiers. These caps exuded glamour and were highly sought after by cavalry drummers. The ornate design and spectacular nature of this particular cap set it apart from the uniforms worn by both officers and enlisted men. It was collected by Lieutenant-Colonel Antony P Lefroy, who served as a captain and major with the esteemed 13th Dragoons between 1755 and 1783. This remarkable piece not only represents historical significance but also serves as a visual reminder of the artistry that went into military regalia during this era. Its presence at London's National Army Museum further solidifies its importance within British history. Through this print captured by Bridgeman Images for Fine Art Finder, we are transported back in time to witness an exquisite example of military fashion that once adorned brave drummers serving their regiment with pride and distinction.
