EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the distinguished figure of Right Reverend Robert Bickersteth, DD. Engraved by an anonymous English School artist in the 19th century, this image is a testament to Bishop Bickersteth's influential role within the religious community. As Bishop of Ripon and Canon Residentiary of Salisbury, Bickersteth dedicated his life to serving God and his congregation. His commitment extended beyond the walls of churches as he actively participated in various organizations such as Church Pastoral Aid Society and Church Missionary Society. With a Doctorate in Divinity from Queens College, Cambridge, he possessed immense knowledge that guided him through his pastoral duties. Born on August 24th, 1816 in Clapham, Bickersteth's journey towards becoming a respected clergyman began early on. He served as Rector of St Giles and Incumbent of St John before assuming higher positions within the church hierarchy. Known for his eloquence and wisdom, he was revered not only among fellow priests but also by individuals from different religious orders. Tragically, Bishop Bickersteth passed away on April 15th, 1884. However, this engraving immortalizes his legacy forever. It serves as a reminder of his unwavering devotion to faith and tireless efforts to spread its teachings far and wide.
