Walkway through old town, Stirling, Scotland, UK

Stirling is a city in central Scotland. The market town, surrounded by rich farmland, grew up connecting the royal citadel, the medieval old town with its merchants and tradesmen, the bridge and the port. Located on the River Forth, Stirling is the administrative centre for the Stirling council area, and is traditionally the county town of Stirlingshire. Proverbially it is the strategically important Gateway to the Highlands

Isle of Man coast, and gateway to Highlands Featured Stirling Print

Isle of Man coast, and gateway to Highlands

A panoramic view of the coast of the Isle of Man photographed from Cumbria (Cumberland) at a point over 40 miles away, which was taken by means of infra-red plate and filter and a long-focus lens - the Irish Sea given the appearance of a great lake! The photograph was taken from a point south-west of Wast Water, Cumbria. The greater part of the eastern coast of the Isle of Man is shown, from a point near Ramsey to the low-lying land in the southerly part of the island. At the bottom is another infra-red photograph of the gateway to the Highlands (Rob Roy country), taken from the Wallace Monument at Stirling, Scotland. Date: 1932
