Newstead Collection

Newstead is a small village located in Nottinghamshire, England and is situated near the River Trent and has a population of around 500 people. The village has been inhabited since at least the 11th century and was once home to Newstead Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded by Henry II in 1170. In 1540, the abbey was dissolved and its lands were granted to Sir John Byron who built Newstead House on the site of the former abbey. The house was later inherited by Lord Byron who made it his family home until 1818 when he sold it to pay off debts. Today, Newstead is still a small village but offers visitors plenty of attractions including an Iron Age hill fort, ancient woodland walks and an abundance of wildlife. It also boasts some lovely pubs and restaurants as well as several local shops for those looking for souvenirs or gifts from their visit to this charming corner of Nottinghamshire.
