John Major Collection

John Major is a British politician who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1990 to 1997. He was born in London, England and educated at Rutlish School and then at the University of London. Major entered politics in 1979 when he was elected as Member of Parliament for Huntingdon. During his time in office, he oversaw a period of economic growth and stability, as well as introducing reforms such as the Citizen's Charter and an increase in spending on education. He also played a key role in negotiating Britain's entry into the European Union (EU). After leaving office, Major remained active in politics, serving on various committees related to international affairs. In 2019 he was appointed Knight Grand Cross of The Most Honourable Order of The Bath by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to public life.
