Ortygia (Italian: Ortigia) is a small island which is the historical centre of the city of Syracuse, Sicily. The island, also known as CittA? Vecchia (Old City), contains many historical landmarks. The name originates from the Ancient Greek ortyx which means 'Quail'.Ortygia is located at the eastern end of Syracuse and is separated from it by a narrow channel. Three bridges connect the island to mainland Sicily. The island is an extremely popular place for tourism, shopping, entertainment and also a residential area.In 2005 Ortygia was added to the Unesco world heritage list

Peter Collins (R) arrives in London with Trophies in hand

British racing driver Peter Collins (R) who came in second place in Mille Miglia in Italy, brings home with him three trophies. Also to meet him was the Ferrari team Manager F. Amorotti at London Airport. *Collins, 24, from Kidderminister was also placed in the Grand Prix at Syracuse, Sicily on the 15th April and a week before that he won the 670 mile tour of the Sicily car race. He also signed to drive for Ferrari's Grand Prix team in 1956 and he went on to race for the team in sports car events when his Aston Martin commitments permit
