Neptune fountain in Florence, Italy

The Neptune Fountain (Italian: Fontana del Nettuno) is a fountain in the Piazza della Signoria in front of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. The image is of marble and bronze and is 560 centimeters tall.The fountain is made from 1560 to 1575 by Bartolomeo Ammannati on the occasion of the wedding of Francesco de Medici with Archduchess Johanna of Austria in 1565. It was a contest won Ammanati with its design. As an example of his fountain he took the Neptune Fountain of Montorsoli he had made in 1575. In the middle is a copy of the marble statue of Neptune with the face of Cosimo I de Medici. Around it are bronze statues of river gods, Satyrs and marble horses. The fountain is made in the style of Mannerism

XIR498716 Ex-voto, 1617-24 (pietra dura, enamel, gems & gilded bronze frame) by Italian School, (17th century); 54.5 x 64.5 cm; Museo degli Argenti, Palazzo Pitti, Florence, Italy; (add.info.: An ex-voto is a votive offering to a saint or to a divinity; this panel was commissioned by Grand Duke Cosimo II de Medici (1590-1621) in 1617 but finished after Cosimo's death; portraying the duke in regal robes and kneeling in prayer to Saint Charles Borromeo, it was designed by Giulio Parigi to be the centre panel of a gold altar to be installed in the chapel of St. Charles Borromeo, Milan; mosaic inlay by Michele Castrucci and Gualtieri Cecchi; gem setting and enamel reliefs by Jonas Falk; Saint Charles Borromeo was canonised in 1610 and became the focus of prayer for cures from sickness; Cosimo was among those who sought the saint's intercession for relief from ill health; the gold altar was melted down in 1789 but this panel survived and was mounted in a frame; view of the Duomo of Florence, Santa Maria del Fiore, and its tower are visible through the window;); Italian, out of copyright
