Nuremberg, Germany

Woodcut by Hartmann Schedel depicting Nuremberg, Germany, one of 645 illustrations for the Nuremberg Chronicle (Liber chronicarum). Schedel's view of the city of Nuremberg depicts the city from the south, from which direction the hill with the castle is easily recognizable. The mass of houses rises above the double circle of the city walls. The two main churches, St Sebald and St Lorenz, are also emphasized by inscriptions. Nuremberg, Germany, 1493. The Holsten Gate or Holstein Tor (Holstentor), a brick gothic city gate at the Hanseatic city of Lubeck, Germany

Low angle view of the Holstentor, Lubeck, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
The Holsten Gate or Holstentor is a city gate marking off the western boundary of the old center of the Hanseatic city of LAOEbeck. Built in 1464, the Brick Gothic construction is one of the relics of LAOEbeck's medieval city fortifications and one of two remaining city gates. It is also regarded today as a symbol of the city. Together with the old city centre of LAOEbeck it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987
