La Ville de Paris airship, 1908, (1932). French dirigible constructed in 1906 for Henry Deutsch de la Meurthe by Édouard Surcouf. In 1908 it made a flight of 9 hours and 25 minutes. From "Die Eroberung Der Luft", (The Conquest of the Air), cigarette card album produced by the Garbáty cigarette factory, 1932. Eugene and Moritz Garbáty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years. Anniversary of the Battle of Mars-la-Tour, 16 August 1870, (1892). The Battle of Mars-La-Tour was fought on 16 August 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War near the town of Mars-La-Tour in north-east France. Two Prussian corps encountered the entire French Army of the Rhine, and successfully forced the Army of the Rhine to retreat into the fortresses of Metz.
