In this poignant and historic image, the last Ming Emperor, Chuang-lieh-ti, also known as Li Zhicheng, Li Tzu-tsung, Ssu Tsung, Huai Tsung, or I Tsung, is depicted in the final moments of the Ming Dynasty. The year was 1644, and the rebel forces of Li Zhicheng, having successfully invaded Beijing (Peking), were closing in on the Forbidden City.
