The King of England, born on June 23, 1894, and his American divorcee wife, Wallis, are seen enjoying a moment of tranquility amidst the picturesque surroundings of the Adriatic Sea. Little did the world know that this idyllic scene would be the last vacation for the royal couple as King and Queen of England. Edward and Wallis's relationship had been the subject of intense scrutiny and controversy since their marriage in June 1937. The Church of England and the British public were deeply opposed to the King's choice of a divorced American socialite as his wife, and the pressure on Edward to abdicate grew stronger by the day.
