EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the momentous occasion of the coronation of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom, taken in the year 1902. Edward, who ascended to the throne following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, is depicted here in all his regal glory, wearing the Anon Robes of the Order of the Bath during the coronation ceremony held at Westminster Abbey. Edward VII, born on November 9, 1841, was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He was known for his love of fine dining, fashion, and women, earning him the nickname "Edward the Peacock." Despite his reputation for being a playboy, Edward proved to be a popular and effective monarch, with a keen understanding of the political landscape and a talent for diplomacy. The Anon Robes, which date back to the 16th century, are a traditional part of the coronation ceremony for the monarch of the United Kingdom. The robes are made of velvet and ermine, with a train that is carried by the Duke of Norfolk. The robe is adorned with the badges of the Orders of the Garter, Thistle, and Star of India, as well as the Royal Coat of Arms. The photograph, taken during the historic event, provides a glimpse into the grandeur and majesty of the British monarchy during the early 20th century. The intricate details of the robes, the solemn expression on the face of the king, and the ornate surroundings of Westminster Abbey all combine to create a powerful and evocative image that transports us back in time to a bygone era.
