This evocative portrait captures the determined visage of Major General Edward Braddock, the British commander-in-chief of forces in America during the mid-18th century. Born in Ireland in 1695, Braddock rose through the ranks of the British Army, earning a reputation as a capable and ambitious leader. In 1755, he led a significant expedition against the French Fort Duquesne, located in present-day Pennsylvania, with the goal of expanding British territorial claims in North America. Braddock's uniform in this portrait reflects the grandeur and authority of his position. He wears a red coat with gold lace and a white waistcoat, adorned with a lapel button displaying the image of a lion. A white cravat is visible at his neck, and a wig covers his head.
