Born on March 23, 1873, in Turin, Italy, the Duke's adventurous spirit was ignited at a young age, leading him to join the Italian Navy in 1891. By the early 1900s, the Duke's insatiable curiosity and thirst for discovery had led him to embark on numerous expeditions, including a daring voyage to the Arctic in 1900, where he became the first European to reach the North Magnetic Pole. In 1906, he led an expedition to Greenland, which resulted in the discovery of the world's largest glacier, the Petermann Glacier. The Duke's exploits did not go unnoticed, and he was awarded numerous accolades for his achievements. In 1921, he was appointed as the Governor of Italian Somaliland, where he worked tirelessly to develop the region and improve the lives of its people.
