1892 1973 Aviator Cock Pit Companion Maurice Stop Coste Costes Dieudonne

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the historic moment when French aviators Dieudonne Costes and Maurice Bellonte achieved the first non-stop transatlantic flight from Paris to New York, on May 27, 1930. Costes, born in 1892, and Bellonte, both pioneers of early aviation, embarked on this daring journey in their custom-built aircraft, the "Southern Cross." The 3,700-mile (6,000 km) flight took them 32 hours and 30 minutes to complete, breaking the previous record for the longest non-stop flight. The image showcases Costes, with his focused gaze and determined expression, at the cockpit's controls, while Bellonte, his dedicated companion, looks on from the passenger seat. The cockpit is filled with an array of instruments, maps, and navigational tools, a testament to the advanced technology and planning required for such a groundbreaking achievement. This photograph is a significant piece of aviation history, as it marks the first successful transatlantic non-stop flight, paving the way for future long-distance aviation milestones. Costes and Bellonte's courage and ingenuity continue to inspire generations of aviators and adventurers. Dieudonne Costes passed away in 1973, leaving behind a rich legacy in the annals of aviation history. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the early days of air travel and the extraordinary feats accomplished by the pioneers of the 1930s aviation era.
