The year is 1967, and Hill, a native of Coventry, is on the verge of achieving his lifelong ambition - leading his beloved Sky Blues to the First Division. Hill had joined Coventry City as a player in 1952, and after retiring from professional football in 1961, he took up the role of manager in 1961. Under his stewardship, Coventry City began to ascend the football league pyramid. In the early 1960s, the team played in the Third Division, but by the mid-1960s, they had progressed to the Second Division. The 1966-67 season saw Coventry City challenge for promotion to the First Division. The team, which included stars such as Bobby Gould, George Hudson, and Derek Hines, was in fine form. In this photograph, taken during a home game against Leeds United, Hill watches intently as his team battles for supremacy on the pitch. Despite facing stiff competition from teams such as Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, and West Bromwich Albion, Coventry City held their own. In April 1967, they secured their place in the First Division with a 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday. Hill's dream had finally come true.
