This iconic photo captures the intense and dramatic moments of the women's 3000m final at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The athletes are seen in action, running with determination on the track of the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. From left to right, we see Great Britain's Wendy Sly (#175), a picture of focus and strength; her compatriot Zola Budd (#151), known for her controversial barefoot running style; Romania's Maricica Puica (#316), displaying sheer determination as she pushes forward towards victory; and finally, the USA's Mary Decker (#373), whose unfortunate collision with Budd ultimately led to her failure to finish. In this snapshot frozen in time, we witness both triumph and disappointment. Puica would go on to claim gold, while Sly secured silver with an impressive performance. However, it was also a bittersweet moment for Budd who finished seventh after being involved in a collision that ended Decker's race prematurely.
