Daughters of Ptolemy X Alexander I Soter II, they ruled Egypt together between 58 and 55 BC. The sisters' reign marked a significant period in Egyptian history, as they were the first known sisters to rule Egypt jointly. Their father, Ptolemy X, had been deposed by his sister Cleopatra Berenice IV, who ruled Egypt alone for a brief period before being overthrown by her brother Ptolemy XI. In an effort to restore stability to the kingdom, Ptolemy X named his daughters as co-regents upon his death. Despite their young age, Cleopatra VI Tryphaena and Berenice proved to be capable rulers. They maintained the Ptolemaic dynasty's traditions and alliances, including the strategic marriage of Cleopatra VI Tryphaena to her brother Ptolemy XIII, who was several years her senior. This union, however, was short-lived, as Cleopatra VI Tryphaena was later deposed and exiled by her brother and his advisors. Berenice, on the other hand, continued to rule Egypt alongside her son Ptolemy XII Neos Dionysos. The sisters' reign is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, which endured for over three centuries.
