This series of illustrations depicts the jubilant celebrations that took place in Glasgow, Scotland, upon receiving the news of the relief of Mafeking during the Second Boer War in 1900. The relief of Mafeking was a significant turning point in the conflict, as the besieged British garrison, led by Colonel Baden-Powell, successfully held out against the Boer forces for over 200 days. The illustrations show the city's residents coming together in a spontaneous outpouring of joy and relief.
