Carlos I of Portugal: A Monarch in Military Uniform (1863-1908) This striking photograph captures the regal presence of Carlos I, the last monarch of the House of Braganza in Portugal, as he stands proudly in his full military uniform. Born in Queluz Palace on 28 September 1863, Carlos I ascended to the throne on 1 February 1889, following the death of his father, King Luis I. The image portrays Carlos I in all his majesty, wearing the traditional Portuguese military helmet, adorned with the royal crest, and a uniform embellished with numerous medals and decorations. The intricate design of the uniform reflects the grandeur of the Portuguese monarchy and the king's commitment to his military duties. Carlos I was a passionate military man, and this photograph encapsulates his dedication to the armed forces. The photograph was taken during Carlos I's reign, which lasted from 1889 to 1908.
