Ticket for World Heavyweight Championship fight of Sonny Liston vs
Green narrow ticket for the World Heavyweight Championship between African-American boxers Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. (1942-2016) was an African-American professional boxer, activist, entertainer, poet, and philanthropist. Ali famously refused to be drafted into the military, citing his religious beliefs and ethical opposition to the Vietnam War. Sonny Liston (1930-1970) became World Heavyweight Champion in 1962, losing the title to Ali in Miami Beach, Florida. Ticket is divided two thirds of the way from the left by a large rectangle box featuring two (2) black and white portraits of the boxers. There are seven (7) punched holes throughout the ticket. Five (5) of the punched holes are cross shaped while the other two (2) are crown shaped. Most of the ticket is in black ink with the seat section, number, and ticket price in red ink. On the back of the ticket is a legal statement about the ticket stating that the ticket is good only for the date listed with no refunds available

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures the essence of a historic moment in boxing history - the World Heavyweight Championship fight between Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay (later known as Muhammad Ali). The green narrow ticket, a tangible piece of sporting memorabilia, takes us back to that fateful day. The ticket itself is divided into two sections by a large rectangle box featuring black and white portraits of both fighters. These powerful images serve as a reminder of the immense talent and determination possessed by these African-American boxers. As we examine the ticket closely, we notice seven punched holes scattered throughout its surface. Five cross-shaped holes symbolize battles fought within the ring, while two crown-shaped holes represent their pursuit for glory and championship status. Mostly adorned with black ink, this precious artifact showcases crucial details such as seat section, number, and ticket price highlighted in vibrant red ink. Turning it over reveals a legal statement emphasizing that this ticket holds value only for the specified date with no possibility of refunds. Beyond being just an item for entry to witness an epic showdown between two legends, this photograph encapsulates more profound narratives surrounding Ali's activism against war and his religious beliefs. It serves as a testament to Liston's reign as World Heavyweight Champion before ultimately losing his title to Ali in Miami Beach.
