EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time to the golden age of travel with this stunning colour illustration depicting the tourist class restaurant on board P&O's superliner Canberra during her maiden voyage to Sydney, Australia in June 1961. Designed by London architect John Wright, this historical restaurant was able to seat up to 750 guests at one time, making it a true marvel of its era. The entrance and bay areas are adorned with intricate screen sculptures created by renowned artist Geoffrey Clarke, adding an extra touch of elegance to the already luxurious surroundings. The Canberra itself was a monumental feat of engineering, being the largest ship built by Harland & Wolff shipyard since White Star Line's Britannic in 1914. As you gaze upon this image, you can almost hear the clinking of glasses and laughter from passengers enjoying their meals in this grand dining hall. The rich history and attention to detail in every aspect of the design make it clear why the Canberra was such an important vessel in maritime history.
