This striking photograph print, sourced from Mary Evans Picture Library, captures Adolphus Frederick, 1st Duke of Cambridge (1774-1850), a prominent military figure and the eldest son of King George III. Born on October 31, 1774, Adolphus Frederick served in the British Army for over sixty years, rising to the rank of Field Marshal and becoming the Commander-in-Chief of the Army in 1812. The Duke's military career began in earnest during the French Revolutionary Wars, where he saw action in Flanders and Holland. He was later appointed Governor-General of Hanover in 1814, a position he held until 1830. Adolphus Frederick's military accomplishments earned him numerous decorations, including the Order of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry in the British monarchy.
