The Paris Commune was a brief period of revolutionary government in Paris, which lasted from March 18 to May 28, 1871. Following the Franco-Prussian War and the abdication of Napoleon III, the people of Paris took control of their city, establishing a radical socialist government. However, the new regime was met with fierce opposition from the French government and its allies. In May 1871, the Versailles army, led by General Lecomte, marched on Paris to restore order. The village of Issy, located just southwest of the city, became a key battleground in the ensuing conflict.
