Dr. Beebe, a pioneer in deep-sea exploration, is seen standing proudly next to this groundbreaking underwater transport, which would soon take him and his colleague, Otis Barton, on a daring journey to depths previously uncharted by humans. The Bathysphere, a spherical, steel-reinforced, and watertight vessel, was designed to withstand the immense pressure of the deep sea.
