This haunting image captures the unsettling reality of the 'Baby Drop' or 'Baby Tour' in 19th century Europe. Abandoned in the corner of a dimly lit room, an ornate, wooden structure stands as a chilling testament to a time when unwanted infants were left at the mercy of the elements and the goodwill of others. The 'Baby Drop' or 'Baby Tour,' as it was also known, was a controversial and little-known practice that allowed parents, often under the guise of anonymity, to place their unwanted or unwanted-at-the-time infants into the device. The bell, suspended above the tour, was pulled by those in need of abandoning their child. Once the bell was pulled, the sisters responsible for operating the tour would revolve it 180 degrees, collecting the abandoned infants and providing them with a chance at life through adoption.
