Federico Zuccaro Collection

Federico Zuccaro (1540-1609) was an Italian Mannerist painter, draughtsman and printmaker of the late Renaissance period. He was born in Sant'Angelo in Vado near Urbino, and trained under his elder brother Taddeo Zuccaro. Federico is best known for his frescoes, altarpieces and portraits, which were highly sought after by patrons throughout Italy. His works often featured complex compositions with multiple figures set against a backdrop of classical architecture or landscapes. He also produced numerous prints depicting religious subjects as well as mythological scenes from classical antiquity. Federico's style was heavily influenced by Michelangelo and Raphael, but he also incorporated elements from the Venetian school of painting into his work.
