Piotr Petrovitch Weretshchagin Collection

Piotr Petrovitch Weretshchagin was a Russian painter and art teacher. He was born in 1843 in the village of Krasnoye, near Moscow. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. He is best known for his paintings depicting scenes from Russian history and culture, as well as his portraits of famous people such as Tsar Alexander II and Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich. His works have been exhibited widely throughout Russia, including at the World's Fair in Paris (1889). Weretshchagin's legacy lives on through his students who continue to create works inspired by his teachings today.
