Sala wrote for many newspapers and magazines throughout his career, including The Illustrated London News and Punch. He also wrote several books including Twice Round the Clock: 24 Hours in a Hackney Cab (1859) and Paris Herself Again in 1878-9 (1879). Sala was known for his vivid descriptions of life in Victorian England as well as his wit and humor. He died on April 8, 1895 at the age of 66. George Augustus Sala is remembered today as one of the most influential journalists of his time who helped shape public opinion through his writing.
