Thomas Sheraton Collection

Thomas Sheraton (1751-1806) was an English furniture designer and cabinetmaker. He is best known for his book, The Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, which was published in four volumes between 1791 and 1802. This book contained over 1,500 engravings of furniture designs that were inspired by the neoclassical style of the late 18th century. His designs were highly influential in England during this period, as well as in France and America. His work also had a lasting influence on 19th century furniture design. Sheraton's style is characterized by simple lines, geometric shapes, and restrained ornamentation with classical motifs such as urns or swags. He also favored lighter woods such as mahogany or satinwood for his pieces. Thomas Sheraton's legacy continues to be seen today in many modern pieces of furniture that are based on his original designs from over 200 years ago.
