Pieter Schenk Collection

Pieter Schenk (1660-1718) was a Dutch engraver, draughtsman and publisher who is best known for his prints of Dutch towns and cities. He was born in Amsterdam and trained as an engraver under Romeyn de Hooghe. His works include the famous View of Amsterdam from the North, which is considered to be his masterpiece. He also produced many other views of Dutch cities, including Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. In addition to these cityscapes he also produced portraits, religious scenes and genre scenes. His work was widely admired during his lifetime and he became one of the most important printmakers in Holland during the late 17th century.
