Domenico de' Rossi Collection

Domenico de' Rossi was an Italian painter and engraver of the Baroque period. He was born in Bologna, Italy in 1659 and died in 1730. He studied under Giacomo Cavedone and then moved to Rome where he worked with Carlo Maratti. His works are mainly religious, although he also produced some landscapes, genre scenes, and portraits. He is best known for his engravings of the works of Raphael, Michelangelo, Annibale Carracci and other masters of the period. His prints often feature strong contrasts between light and dark areas as well as a great sense of movement within the composition. De' Rossi's work is highly valued for its technical skill as well as its aesthetic beauty.
